IELTS Academic Writing
The Academic test is for students applying to universities, colleges, or professional registration.
Task 1

You must describe the data or explain the process in at least 150 words.

Task 2
Write an essay on a point of view, problem, or argument.
Minimum 250 words.
Style: Formal and academic.
Example Essay Topic:
Some people believe that studying online is more effective than attending classes. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
IELTS General Training Writing
The General Training test is for those applying for work visas, PR, or immigration purposes.
Task 1
Write a letter – it could be formal, semi-formal, or informal.
You must explain a situation, request information, or complain, in at least 150 words.
Example Question:
You are going to move to a new city. Write a letter to a friend explaining why you’re moving and asking for advice.
Task 2
Same as Academic – an essay on a social issue or opinion.
Style may be a little less formal but still structured.
Example Essay Topic:
Some people believe it is better to work in one company for life, while others prefer to change jobs. Discuss both views.
